On Sept. 1, 2022, Microsoft introduced Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro, which replaces the Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard and Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium offers in market.
WHAT IS MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS PRO?
Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro is a new offer that brings together the value of our existing Teams Rooms features, new innovations, and the Teams Rooms managed service platform—all in one license. Teams Rooms Pro simplifies the purchasing process for our customers and delivers the collective benefits of our advancements in both hybrid meeting experiences and device management.
WHAT IS MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS BASIC LICENSE?
Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic makes it easier for small businesses to create hybrid meeting experiences. Teams Rooms Basic provides foundational Teams meeting experiences like scheduling, joining meetings, and wireless content sharing. For customers needing core management and hybrid meeting features, we recommend Teams Rooms Pro.
Teams Rooms Basic is included with the purchase of any certified Teams Rooms device at no additional cost purchased on or after September 1, 2022. Customers can apply up to 25 Basic licenses to their tenant
WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS AND MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS PRO LICENSE?
Microsoft offers two licenses for meeting room devices that participate in Teams meetings and calls:
Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro delivers enhanced in-room meeting experiences like intelligent audio and video, front row and large galleries, and dual screen support. The Teams Rooms Pro license also provides advanced management features like remote device management, conditional access policies, and detailed device analytics.
Teams Rooms Pro is a great fit for medium and enterprise organizations, as well as smaller organizations with larger room counts or more advanced needs.
Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic provides core meeting experiences to organizations that purchase a certified Microsoft Teams Rooms device, at no additional cost. The Teams Rooms Basic license includes scheduling, joining meetings, content sharing, and collaborative white boarding, as well as basic security and management capabilities out-of-the-box.
You can assign up to 25 Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic licenses to Teams Rooms devices in your organization. If you need to license more than 25 devices, those additional licenses need to be Teams Rooms Pro licenses.
A Teams Rooms Basic license can be used to license a single certified Teams Rooms device in a room. If you want to log into more than one device in a room using the same resource account (for example, a Teams Rooms console, a Surface Hub, and a Teams panel), you need to use a Teams Rooms Pro license.
WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS PRO?
Teams Rooms Pro will deliver the latest hybrid meeting experiences with a focus on inclusivity, ease of use, flexibility, security, and management. Let’s look at some of the features available or coming soon to Teams Rooms Pro.
Intelligent audio and video: To help everyone be seen and heard, we combine high-quality audio and video from Microsoft Teams-certified devices with video layout options like front row, noise suppression, and bandwidth optimization. Advanced camera capabilities use AI to help remote attendees feel like they are in the room with automatic framing to capture the active speaker.
Increased engagement: Beyond audio and video, one of the best ways for remote participants to establish their presence in a meeting is to engage with ease. We’re bringing popular features from the personal Teams meeting experience to Teams Rooms Pro—including features like wirelessly sharing content, raise hand, and live reactions. And when using the classic video grid layout, chat bubbles alert in-room participants to the conversation happening alongside the meeting, so nothing gets missed.
Powerful collaboration: Real-time collaboration can be a part of every meeting for every attendee through Microsoft Whiteboard, Microsoft Surface Hub 2S, and the intelligent capture of an analog whiteboard. Easily add a touch display to enable multi-user, shared whiteboarding, or add a content camera to share an intelligent, augmented whiteboard view into Teams meetings.
Management and security: Great meeting experiences start behind the scenes with strong security and operations. Teams Rooms Pro provides essential enterprise-grade management and security, including access control, remote configuration, and device analytics, as well as IT service management (ITSM) integration. Teams Rooms Pro also includes the Teams Rooms managed service platform, which provides AI-driven operations that automate updates, problem detection, and resolution at scale.
Switching from Teams Rooms Standard and Teams Rooms Premium
If your organization has meeting devices that use the Teams Rooms Standard or Teams Rooms Premium legacy licenses, you can continue using those licenses until their expiration date. Upon the expiration date of your existing legacy licenses, we recommend that you transition to the Teams Rooms Pro license. The meeting and management features* available in both of the legacy licenses have been combined in the Teams Rooms Pro license.
If your organization has an Enterprise Agreement, you can continue using your existing legacy licenses until your next renewal period. You can also continue to reserve additional legacy licenses until your next renewal period. For more information, contact your Microsoft representative.
Microsoft Service engineers will no longer serve as intermediaries to incident response starting October 1, 2022.
HOW TO OBTAIN AND ASSIGN A LICENSE MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS PRO?
Microsoft Teams Rooms resource accounts require a Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro license to work with the Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium-managed service.
To assign a license, perform the following steps:
Log in to Microsoft 365 admin center as an administrator. Note This type of administrator is sometimes referred to as global administrator. See Overview of the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Choose Billing > Licenses from the left navigation pane.
Select the appropriate Teams Rooms Pro license for your intended usage (paid and trial licenses are available). See Microsoft Teams Rooms licenses for a comparison between Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic and Pro SKUs.
On the Billing accounts page, select Assign licenses. The Assign licenses to users page appears.
Enter the existing Microsoft Teams Rooms accounts for Teams Rooms Pro license assignment. For more information about setting up new - or validating existing - Microsoft Teams Rooms accounts, see Create resource accounts for rooms and shared Teams devices.
Once account submission is completed, select Assign and then Close. The Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro licenses have been assigned to Microsoft Teams Rooms accounts.
You are now ready to enroll the resource accounts and the associated certified Microsoft Teams Rooms devices in the Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium-managed service.
HOW TO ADD THE MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS BASIC LICENSE?

The following tables compare the Teams Rooms Basic and Teams Rooms Pro licenses and show what features are available with each. If a feature isn't available for a license, that feature can't be used on Teams Rooms devices that have been assigned that license. To use a feature on a Teams Rooms device, assign the license in which that feature is available to that device.
What Are The Updates for Teams Rooms managed service?
Teams Rooms managed service enables customers to scale and optimize their rooms deployment. Building on learnings delivering on this value for the past several years, Microsoft announced an evolution to one of the Teams Rooms managed service workflows.
Starting October 1, 2022, incidents will automatically remediate or route to the customer’s IT department or designated management partner, without the intermediary involvement from our engineers.
The Teams Rooms managed service platform will continue to provide all the platform value Premium customers know and use today, including all-day monitoring, update ring configuration, incident diagnostics, inventory planning, and advanced incident analytics.
